    Rash of Break Ins

    by: JD

Tue Dec 30, 2008 at 15:41:57 PM EST

(Police were called to a house on Mt. Vernon on the corner of the street where I grew up just yesterday.  Today there was another call - which happened sometime last night - at a business in Oakdale Square.   - promoted by Brian)

In the past few weeks there have been a rash of break ins on Mt. Vernon St. and the side streets that run off of Mt. Vernon. Some have been happening at night/early evening while the home owners have been sleeping. This is very troubling and we all need to keep an eye out. Please lock your doors, keep your exterior lights on and report all suspicious activity to the police.

    Thank you for alerting us.

I haven't been by to confirm, but I believe the case in Oakdale Square was at Tedeschi's.  I heard the glass door was smashed.  Police are also asking for help finding a crook with a similar MO.  On the 27th a black man driving an older Acura or Infiniti smashed the window at the Hess Station.  From there he stole a bunch of lottery tickets, and left behind a ticket dispenser he stole a couple weeks ago in Avon. (Hat tip UHub)

Also missing, one small brindle cow.  Remember Jamaica Plain? pulls out a story from 1818 in which a cow was found on the Dedham Turnpike, today better known to us as Washington Street.  (Via UHub also)

    Nothing in Newspapers (0.00 / 0)
I have been watching the Transcript and the Dedham Times, but neither have reported anything about this incident.  Did I miss something?   Has anyone heard anything new about this issue?

    Transcript (0.00 / 0)
There was an announcement in the Transcipt today fron the Dedham Police. It was not in the Times....that would require "reporting".

    I saw that (0.00 / 0)
The Transcript mentioned the break-ins, but didn't say where they were. So much for "who, what, when and where." I assume they were told not to say, so as to protect the feelings (property values) of the Oakdale residents.

If I heard someone attempting to break in to my home I would hit the horn alert on my remote car lock and then dial 911. The neighbors would certainly not be happy, but then they would be aware something was really wrong.

Tonight during the Selectmen meeting, around 8:30 Chief  Wier will be there to talk about this issue. There will also be a presentation that should be posted tomorrow.
It is not on the agenda, but is being added at the request of Selectmen Butler.

    Another (0.00 / 0)
Another break in was reported today in East Dedham, on a small, way out of the way street.

Thank you Jim for posting this info...It is important for the public to be aware of this.  Too bad our local papers are not keeping up with it.

Legacy Place has been around for a year now. How do you like it?
Great! I go there all the time.
Good. I'm glad we have it, but I don't go often.
It's OK. Doesn't affect me one way or another.
Bad. It's been a net-negative for the town.
Terrible! I wish they never built it.
