    DEP's Flamingo Fundraiser

    by: Eileenk

(It must be spring if members of the Phoenicopteridae family are flocking to town.
    - promoted by Brian
    )

I have been involved in my share of fundraising in this town, so I know a good one when I see one. I think that the DEP's Flamingo Fundraiser is Brilliant.  It doesn't involve Candy, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup or massive amounts of money.  What it does involve is imagination, participation and a real sense of humor and fun.  Good going DEP.  I know a couple of people that need some flamingos to brighten up their lawn.

    Get PINKED for Education! (0.00 / 0)
Thanks for the support Eileen!  The fundraiser is actually by the Dedham Education Foundation (DEF, not DEP), but DEP is very supportive of the effort!  Flyers with information are being circulated, but for those wondering, for $25 you can send a flock of bright pink plastic flamingos to an unsuspecting neighbor.  For $15 you can purchase "Anti-Flock Insurance" to guarantee that they don't roost on your lawn or return multiple times!  Contact Denise Connell, 781-727-3030, connells5@gmail.com or Mary Ellen McDonough, 781-223-5813, MEM@MaryEllenMcDonough.com, to place your Flamingo Order!  Check them out on the elementary shcool lawns today.

    Nothing's too tacky for the DEF! (0.00 / 0)
In case any of you were wondering, this is what was being referred to last week when you were encouraged to Think Pink!

And this is what your front lawn might look like some morning when you open the door to get the paper:

This was a great idea and it will be interesting to see which lawns these pink wonders end up on over the course of the month.  Call in the Kitsch for Kids Tour!

[Random piece of triva: While the real things might prefer more tropical climates, the plastic versions were invented in Leominster.]

The flamingos were on Adams St. yesterday but they are gone today. Does anybody know where they went?

A co-worker of mine wanted to check them out. But they look like they flew the coop. Has anybody seen them? Thanks

    Gloria

They only stay with you for 24 hours.  Then they find a new home somewhere else!  Keep your eye out.

Maybe its not a fundraiser... maybe its Dedham's Turkey Defense System

Legacy Place has been around for a year now. How do you like it?
Great! I go there all the time.
Good. I'm glad we have it, but I don't go often.
It's OK. Doesn't affect me one way or another.
Bad. It's been a net-negative for the town.
Terrible! I wish they never built it.
