Here is something you don't see every day. Monday was unseasonably warm, so I had my windows open. I kept hearing music, so off I went to investigate. When I did I found Richard Jacobson and his "trumpet of fire" playing Christmas carols outside the police station. Why the lights were turned on in the bushes in the middle of the afternoon, I don't know.
Turns out Richard is somewhat of a troubadour, traveling from place to place on his bike playing Christian and patriotic music. He's been in the Boston area for about a month, and said he spent Thanksgiving at Plymouth Rock. After he departed (but not before playing When Irish Eyes Are Smiling upon recognizing the Irishness of my name), he took my suggestion and visited the Fairbanks House. He said he loved history and wanted to be a "Minuteman for God."
Next stop for him was Concord, where he planned to stay the night and eventually he will bike as far north as Maine and Canada. He also loved "our village" and said he would like to return some day. He was also enamored with the fire box that stood on the corner and had me take a picture of him in front of it. Then asked to take one of me in front of the creche next to the Knights of Columbus building.
You don't really see Christmas carolers anymore, so this was a nice surprise. I hope he does come back and play again for us some day.
