(Help is still needed for this event, so I am bumping it up. Please call the Parks and Rec office if you can help - 781-751-9250. - promoted by Brian)
Last week there was talk of canceling Dedham Day, one of the things I would rank high on my list of the best things about living in Dedham (Where else can you not only bet on where a cow is going to defecate, and have people line up to watch the action?). It almost fell victim to the law on unintended consequences. After a Parks and Rec employee was arrested for allegedly dealing drugs, and it was discovered that a CORI check had never been run on him, the Commission pushed for a policy to make sure the situation would never happen again. The Selectmen instituted such a policy, and extended it to cover not only employees, but any volunteers or vendors working at a Town sponsored event.
Dedham Day, as you all know, is just such a town sponsored event. When it became clear just how many CORI checks would have to be run there was worry that we would never get them back from the state in time. Most of them were able to get back, however, but there is still a need for help. After the jump is a copy of an e-mail I got this afternoon calling for volunteers who have already undergone a CORI check through the schools (or, I presume, another town agency) to help out. If you can give a few hours, please consider donating your time to this very worthy event.
Also, please consider placing a bet on where Juliette the cow will do her business by buying a deed. You can find the form on the Dedham Day webpage.
Because of the new Town Policy for CORI evaluations, We are expecting to be shorted handed with volunteers and are looking for parents who have already been CORI'd through the Dedham Schools to help for a few hours.
If you can help for a couple of hours with ripping tickets for the amusement rides or kids game, please call 781-751-9250 and ask for Bob Stanley.
