Our Questions for Lynch and D'Alessandro

    by: Brian

Tue Aug 24, 2010 at 09:53:09 AM EDT

What question would you ask Congressional candidates Stephen Lynch and Mac D'Alessandro to answer if you had the chance? The editors of community web sites from Milton (02186 MyTownMatters), Dedham (MyDedham), and Westwood (Our Westwood) are inviting you to submit your questions as comments below from now until August 31. We will select 10 questions and submit those to both campaigns, then publish their responses online before the September 14 Democratic Primary.

Please suggest questions both candidates can answer--don't try to debate/discuss the merits of the candidates under this topic yet. Save that for after they respond. Please follow the community guidelines as you make comments.

    Healthcare Bill (0.00 / 0)
    To Steve Lynch:

You voted against the Healthcare bill supported by most members of your party, including the President.  In retrospect, would you cast the same vote?  How has the implementation of the Bill gone so far?

    Ignorance, not bias (0.00 / 0)
Not that it is a good excuse, but I am going to have to claim ignorance on this one.  It wasn't by bias (at least not on my part) that they were excluded.  I've met Keith Lepor on a few occasions and I think he has a compelling story.  I've never heard of Vernon Harrison, however.  Is he running as a Republican?  It doesn't say on his website.

    Sorry (0.00 / 0)
The suggestion of bias (in the form of a question) was my response to the unknown author of the boilerplate text used at the three web sites mentioned.  I left the same comment at each of the sites.

http://massachusetts-election-... lists Harrison as (R), but as you say, it doesn't says so on his site.

Here are links to all 5 candidates:

I think we can supply the questions to all 5 and print the responses we receive.

    Question #1 (0.00 / 0)

Health Care costs in the US continue to rise faster than income, and the recent health care bill did not directly require significant cost reductions.

Congress did not have an up or down vote on a single payer system, which through lower adminstrative costs and negotiated lower rates has the potential to reduce health care costs significantly.

Would you vote yes or no on a pure single payer health care plan for the US?

    Opposite Spin (0.00 / 0)
Deadline has passed, but let's see if I can't ask my own leading question.

Obamacare was passed despite a majority of Americans being opposed to it and it received no Republican support.  Since support is even lower now that when it was passed, would you support its repeal?

If you don't support the outright repeal of Obamacare, how would you vote on a bill to rescind the onerous 1099 reporting requirements imposed as part of the bill?

    making sausage (0.00 / 0)
The political process many times results in compromises that are not the preferred alternative. My recollection of the polling back when health care "reform" was being debated was that it was in third place behind a single payer plan and doing nothing.

Thanks to folks like Lynch we did not get an up or down vote on single payer.

Lynch's problem with health care is that he voted against doing something (what Eric calls Obamacare) and strenuously opposed doing nothing, both without pushing for an alternative that would have driven health care costs lower, provided universal coverage and stuck it to the insurance companies that he now criticizes. Truly an Artful Dodger.

could you give us some details on your pro or anti-choice stand?

...to worship the god who laughs.

    Sorry, too late (0.00 / 0)
We've already sent off the questions to the candidates.  Sorry we couldn't include this one, but everyone should feel free to reach out to the candidates individually on issues that are important to them.
