    Just Wondering

(I think it might be a Board of Health regulation. - promoted by Brian)

As I drive around town, I notice some yards that have pools have a fence. Whereas, others don't. We have a fence around our yard and I keep it up because of our pool.

I was just wondering if there is any type of bylaw that requires a fence to be up if you have a pool. Or is it something that most of us do out of our concern for safety.

Can anybody answer this bit of tidbit for me?
    Thanks.
    Gloria

    Pools (0.00 / 0)
Went to the building department today, and they told me that back in the early seventys there were no regulations, however now if it is a inground pool that it must be inclosed with a fence and that the building department over sees this thru permits. hope this helps.

    Homeowners insurance (0.00 / 0)
We had an above ground pool when I was a kid. My parents did put up a fence but I believe they had to do so to get coverage under the homeowners policy.

    Fences are required (0.00 / 0)
State law says that any pool greater than 24 inches deep & 200 sq feet in diameter, INCLUDING INFLATABLE POOLS like the ones you buy at Wal-Mart or Job Lot, require a fence.

I'm not sure about older, potentially grandfathered pools.

    Thank You Everyone (0.00 / 0)
I want to thank everyone for coming to my rescue. I knew that if I posted my question on "mydedham" that an answer would be found.

There are a lot of smart cookies in Dedham. I am just glad that they read the blog.

    Poll
Legacy Place has been around for a year now. How do you like it?
Great! I go there all the time.
Good. I'm glad we have it, but I don't go often.
It's OK. Doesn't affect me one way or another.
Bad. It's been a net-negative for the town.
Terrible! I wish they never built it.
