    library hours??

    by: Stacey

Sun Jun 21, 2009 at 14:27:12 PM EDT

(I believe the library has summer hours, but I'm not sure if they have gone into effect yet. - promoted by Brian)

Just drove to main library..  hours on website are 1-5-- I almost always go on sundays --  (used to be sat but now it is closed then)
Got there to find it closed.. the hours on the little sign in the door now list it closed for sundays.  This means the main branch is not open at all on weekends.  If necessary for budget reasons I guess we have to accept it.. but I do not see why it can not be accurate on the website!!  Also wish there was some sort of creative scheduling that would allow it open at least one weekend day.

That's easy. Shut down Endicott on Saturday and open Main. I dont' see the point, but that would do it.

not trying to hurt one side of town to help another..... truly believe there is a way to make it right for all.. at least before each was open one day...

    I too (0.00 / 0)
went by the main library today and it was closed.  I double checked the schedule online before driving there.

I don't know why that happened today, but library should ALWAYS be open on the weekend! (3.00 / 2)
Would anyone object to the libraries being closed one weekday (say, Tuesdays) so that they could be available at least one weekend day?  That way those of us with regular, Monday-Friday, 9-5 jobs would have a guaranteed day to enjoy the library at leisure during the day.  And those who are retired or are at home could use that day too as well as the other 4 weekdays.   I don't see any downside to this plan, personally.

    Was there any notice? (0.00 / 0)
When the Endicott branch changed their hours we were notified beforehand......

    Could the change be temporary?

    don't think so... (0.00 / 0)
still says open on sundays on website..  went back trying to find minutes of library meetings on the town website but there is nothing!  looked at Brian's news site...  it mentioned endicott changing.. but nothing about main branch

the sign in the door clearly states closed on sunday...
????  any library trustees out there that can clear this up?

    Re: Library Hours (0.00 / 0)
To my knowledge closing the Main on Sundays and keeping the branch open on Sat. is what happens every summer. It should have been updated on the website.

To find out why it wasn't updated on the website, you need to ask the director or the person in charge of the library website. I can't help you there.

Making a trip to the library when you thought it was opened but wasn't had to be frustrating. I am sorry that it happened to so many people.

I believe next Monday June 29th is the next Trustee's meeting. People need to go and share their concerns. If you don't attend the meeting then how will the Trustees know your concerns. The meeting always begin with a public input section.

I hope that I helped. These are my thoughts and feeling alone. Gloria

The town seems to treat its web site like it's a street sign -  put it up and forget it. You shouldn't have to go to a meeting to get a web page updated. This interweb thing seems to be here to stay.

    Sunday Closings (0.00 / 0)
It is our custom to close the Library on Sunday's in the summer months. Our Sunday's budget has just been slashed in half, we have lost two full time positions along with $100.000 right out of the upcoming 2010 budget that will start July 1st. Regarding Saturday's we have a contract with the staff to have at least two people working the branch and three working the main at all times. We have just reduced the hours at the branch just so we could keep open the hours we are working right now. I only see it getting werse until someone can convince the powers to be to give us more monies not take it away. Hope this helps and like cavolog says please come to our meetings and show your support for your Library's if you can not make it in person send us an e-mail or letter. I end by saying our communication at the Library has not been great and I as one trustee will work hard to make it better.

Legacy Place has been around for a year now. How do you like it?
Great! I go there all the time.
Good. I'm glad we have it, but I don't go often.
It's OK. Doesn't affect me one way or another.
Bad. It's been a net-negative for the town.
Terrible! I wish they never built it.
